A RESOLUTION M SUPPORT OF A LOCAL OPTION ELECTION
SEEKING VOTER APPROVAL OF LIQUOR SALES BY THE DRINK
WITHIN THE CITYLlMITS OFIACKSONVILLEAND REPEALING THE
DRY DESIGNA TION OF THE OLD GRA Y TOWNSHIP; AND, FOR
OTHER PURPOSES,
WHEREAS, the Arkansas General Assembly passed Act 1018 of 2013, which allows
for Local Option Elections for approval of alcohol sales within cities and counties in
Arkansas that had previously been declared dry territories by defunct voting districts;
WHEREAS, the majority of the City of Jacksonville lies within what was once known
as the Old Gray Township, which was voted dry many, many years ago;
WHEREAS, to improve potential development and growth as well as increase sales
tax revenues, the City Council is in favor of hosting such an election for our City and
supports the alternative of designating the City of Jacksonville a wet area that would allow
liquor/beer by the drink in restaurants and other such food establishments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OFIACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT.-
SECTION
HAT;
SECTION ONE: In support of the growth and potential development that
could increase sales tax revenues, the City Council supports an election to remove the dry
designation attributable to the Old Gray Township and encourages citizens to support an
election that would allow Liquor/Beer sales by the drink at restaurants and other such
food establishments throughout the City of Jacksonville. The Council believes doing so
will be beneficial to the citizens of Jacksonville through improved convenience, increased
development possibilities for the City, and improved sales tax revenues could be provided
and would permit evaluation of services the City could provide to its citizens.
SECTION TWO: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. This Resolution shall be in effect from and
after its date of passage.
