RESOLUTION NO. *3c (O C _d'7)
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING THE EFFORTS OF THE UNITED
STATES SOCCER FEDERATION IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO HOST THE 1994 WORLD
CUP SOCCER COMPETITION IN THE UNITED STATES; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Soccer is one of the world's most popular sports
and has become the fastest growing team sport in the United
States, providing an excellent opportunity for our youth to
develop team and individual athletic skills; and,
WHEREAS, the United States Soccer Federation is an organi-
zation supporting and promoting Soccer at all levels, including
the World Cup Competition; and,
WHEREAS, the 1994 World Cup Soccer Competition will be a
major sporting and tourism event, with world wide interest focused
on the host nation; and,
WHEREAS, the host nation automatically qualifies for parti-
cipation in the 1994 World Cup and to host such a competition
would greatly encourage the continued growth of soccer in the
United States.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Jacksonville declares its full
support of the efforts of the United States Soccer Federation in
bringing the 1994 World Cup Competition to the United States and
offers its enthusiastic support to the Federation and all of its
actions before the Federation Internationale de Football Associa-
tion in its goal of hosting the 1994 World Cup Competition in the
United States.
SECTION 2: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
