RESOLUTION NO. 3 8 1 ( #4 - 87)
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE PLACEMENT OF A LOW LEVEL RADIOACTIVE
WASTE DISPOSAL SITE IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS THROUGH THE CENTRAL
INTERSTATE LOW LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE COMPACT; AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of
Jacksonville, Arkansas, that:
WHEREAS, the Central Interstate Low Level Radioactive Waste
Compact has identified two (2) sites in the state of Arkansas as
possible sites for low level radioactive waste disposal sites;
and,
WHEREAS, the residents of the areas affected strongly
object to the location of these low level radioactive waste
disposal sites for good and valid reasons; and,
WHEREAS, the location of the low level radioactive waste
disposal sites in the state of Arkansas could potentially cause
problems of dealing with hazardous wastes which are evident in
the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, at this time.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Jacksonville,
Arkansas, hereby goes on record opposing the location of a low
level radioactive waste disposal site in the state of Arkansas.
SECTION 2: We hereby strongly urge the Central Interstate
Low Level Radioactive Waste Compact to locate the low level
radioactive waste disposal sites in states other than Arkansas.
SECTION 3: We hereby urge Dr. Phyllis Garnett as a member
of the Compact Commission to do everything within her powers to
make sure that the low level radioactive waste disposal site is
not located in the state of Arkansas.
SECTION 4: Any and all Resolutions or parts of Resolutions
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
