RESOLUTION NO. 3 7 4 ( #15 - 86)
A RESOLUTION PROVIDING APPROVAL AND SUPPORT FOR THE SUBMISSION OF
AN APPLICATION TO ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF POLLUTION CONTROL AND
ECOLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE BRUSHY ISLAND LANDFILL, PHASE III,
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Waste Management Company has proposed a deve-
lopment and expansion of Phase III of the Brushy Island Landfill
of approximately pp oximately 170.4 acres; and
WHEREAS, it is required by state law to receive approval
from the governing body of the local municipality before sub-
mitting an application to the Arkansas Department of Pollution
Control and Ecology for development and expansion of the existing
landfill facilities; and
WHEREAS, Waste Management Company has stated that this pro-
posal is the best alternative for the needed expansion of the
landfill; and
WHEREAS, the Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and
Ecology will hold public hearings before approval of the pro -
posed expansion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Jacksonville
hereby approves and supports the efforts of Waste Management
Company for submission of an application to Arkansas Department
of Pollution Control and Ecology for the development and expan-
sion of the Brushy Island Landfill, Phase III.
Section 2. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in
conflict herein are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
Section 3. This Resolution shall be in effect from and
after its date of passage.
