0329 RESOLUTION NO. 3 2 9 ( #16 -84) RESOLUTION TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS URGING PASSAGE OF AN AMENDMENT TO THE POLICE MEN'S PENSION AND RELIEF FUND; FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville has a Police Pension Board overseeing the pension funds of employees hired prior to the passage of legislation requiring all police employees to be a part of the State of Arkansas Pension and Relief Fund; and WHEREAS, a majority of employees hired since the State passed legislation requiring participation in the State Fund rather than the local fund, would rather be a part of the local fund, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Jacksonville, Pulaski County, Arkansas, that: 1. We recommend and urge the Arkansas State Legislature to enact legislation amending Arkansas Stat. Ann. §19 -1801, et. seq., and all other relevant statutes, to provide for all police officers of municipalities with a good pension fund to have the option of becoming a part of either the State or the local Police Pension Fund. 2. We further recommend and urge the Arkansas State Legislature to allow, by legislation, the governing bodies of cities of the first class to guarantee the acturarial soundness of the local plans on an annual basis rather than requiring study be performed to determine whether the fund is actuarily sound or not. 3. We further urge our State Representatives, Mike Wilson, Doug Wood and Art Givens, and our State Senator Max Howell, to sponsor said legislation at the 1985 session. 4. That this Resolution is necessary for the future of the Jacksonville Police Pension Fund a nd w ould benefit the police officers of our City. APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 6TH DAY OF DECEMBER, 1984.
