0322 d RESOLUTION NO. 322 ( #9 -84) RESOLUTION OPPOSING REBURYING OF BARRELS OF 245 -T ON VERTAC PLANT IN JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, AS A DANGER TO THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE CITIZENS OF JACKSONVILLE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, there has been considerable discussion on what steps to take to resolve the problem in regard to the barrels of 245 -T buried on the Jacksonville Vertac plant, and WHEREAS, one possible alternative mentioned by EPA has been to dig up the barrels and rebury them on the Vertac plan in Jacksonville, and WHEREAS, the reburying of the barrels on the Jacksonville Vertac plant property would create a substantial risk of dan- ger to the health and safety of all residents of Jacksonville, and WHEREAS, the risk involved in the digging up and reburying of the barrels far exceeds the proposed remedy as said action would not remove any dangers to the community and the same problem now existing would exist if the barrels are reburied. BE IT RESOLVED by the Jacksonville City Council, that we oppose any proposal to dig up the barrels of 245 -T existing on the Jacksonville Vertac plant for the purpose of reburying them at the Jacksonville Vertac plant. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any action taken to remove the threats, if any, existing because of said barrels, should and must include the removal from the Jacksonville area and must not endanger the health and safety of the Jacksonville residents.
