0236 73 RESOLUTION NO. 2 3 6 - 7 9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, GOING ON RECORD AS FAVORING THE PROPOSED MERGER OF PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS WITH NATIONAL AIRLINES WHEREAS, Pan American World Airways, Inc., has proposed to the Civil Aeronautics Board a corporate merger with National Airlines; and WHEREAS, should the merger receive approval it will allow Pan American to expand its services in the growing Sun Belt market and stimulate airline competition; and WHEREAS, Arkansas, as a part of the Sun Belt region, main- tains a close association with Pan American through the Falcon Jet Corporation at Little Rock, which is fifty percent owned by the Pan American Corporation; and WHEREAS, through this close affiliation, over 690 jobs have been created at the Falcon Jet plant at Little Rock, which main- tains an annual payroll of more that $7.4 million; and WHEREAS, the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Pan American, Mr. William Seawell, is a native Arkansas who has expressed a direct, personal commitment to the state's continued economic development and maintains a close association with many of the state's business leaders; and WHEREAS, the proposed Pan American merger could have a favorable impact on the company's growth and investment at Little Rock; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Jacksonville, Arkansas, go on record as favoring the proposed merger of Pan American Airways with National Airlines, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be presented to the Civil Aeronautics Board and Pan American Airlines, and a copy placed in the permanent records of the minutes of the City Council of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
