A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZINVG THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREE-
MENT WITH THE ARKANSAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT IN CONNECTION IWUT EXISTING
PLANS FOR THE VANDENBURG INTERSECTION WHICH WILL TRANSFER THE RIGHT OF
WAY FOR GREGORY STREET FROM U. S. HIGHWAY 167 TO ARKANSAS STATE HIGHWAY
161 AND WILL ACCEPT FOR MAINTENANCE THE PORTION OF ARKANSAS STATE HIG3-
WAY 161 FROM GREGORY STREET TO VANDENBURG INTERSECTION AND TO CEASE
EXISTING ON RAMP AT GREGORY STREET FOR NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC; DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville recognizes that the intersection
of Vandenburg and Highway 167 -67 is a dangerous intersection; and
WHEREAS, the Arkansas Highway Department has prepared a map plan
entitled Airbase Inter- change U. S. 67 -167 and State Highway 161, dated
December 31, 1975, and attached hereto and made a part hereof; and
WHEREAS, a study has shown that the on ramp at Gregory Street
creates a dangerous situation for northbound traffic,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COtNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, that:
SECTION 1. The Mayor is authorized to execute an agreement to
transfer the streets herein described.
SECTION 2. The City of Jacksonville hereby agrees to close the
existing on ramp for northbound traffic at Gregory Street and to maintain
that portion of Highway 161 transferred to the City of Jacksonville, said
portion being from Grefory Street to the Vandenburg interchange.
SECTION 3. This resolution being necessary for the immediate pre-
, servation of the public health, safety, welfare and morale of the citizens
of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, an emergency is hereby declared to
exist and this resolution shall have full force and effect immediately after
its passage.
