MINUTES: BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT REGULAR MEETING
DATE AND TIME: April 11, 2016 6:30 p.m. – 6:35 p.m.
ATTENDANCE: Commissioners: Ronnie Higgins, Virgil Healey, and Chairman Rick White were present. City Attorney Bamburg and City Engineer Whisker were also present.

City Clerk Susan Davitt recorded those listed above in attendance and Chairman Rick White declared a quorum.
APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Higgins moved, seconded by Commissioner Healey to approve the regularly scheduled meeting minutes of March 14, 2016. MOTION CARRIED with Chairman White voting AYE.
VARIANCE(S): Sign Package Variance 315 South James Street for Edwards CashSaver
Chairman White opened the public hearing at approximately 6:31 p.m.
Mr. Paul Rowton of GES Inc., the Company that owns and operates Edwards CashSaver in Jacksonville. He expressed his appreciation to the City in regards to working with them, saying
that it has been a tremendous success. He explained that the City has been very instrumental in helping them get the store opened as quickly as they did. He stated that it was their
intent to clean up the building and give Jacksonville a building they deserved. He invited everyone to come to the new facility.
He related that they are requesting a variance for the number of signs as well as the maximum square footage. He answered Chairman White that the building has a total of 4 signs.
City Engineer Whisker informed that Board that a sign package for a store this size is not an unusual request, noting that Wal-Mart has the same type of sign package variance. He noted
it is common to have varied signs along the front and then a sign on the side of the building. He noted other establishments in Jacksonville with more than one frontage opportunity.
Mr. Rowton answered Chairman White that three of the signs are on the front of the building facing James Street and one is on the side of the building by the access to Main Street.
City Engineer Whisker noted that the total signage on the front, counted as one or three, exceeds the maximum 200 square feet. He explained that typically this type of request is to
accept the entire sign package, which is typically a variance for the number and/or square footage and in this case it is both.
Commissioner Higgins moved, seconded by Commissioner Healey to approve the sign package for Edwards CashSaver at 315 South James Street as requested. MOTION CARRIED.

Without objection, Chairman White adjourned the meeting at approximately 6:35 p.m. MOTION CARRIED.
