A RESOLUTION EXPRESSINGAPPRECIA TION FOR CANINE OFFICER
ALEX UPON HIS RETIREMENT; IN SUPPORT OF TRANSFERRING
0WNTERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY OF CANINE OFFICER ALEX TO
HIS HANDLER, OFF. REGINA 80 YD; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES,
WHEREAS; `the City of Jacksonville has used canine officers for many years and
have been fortunate to have both tremendous canine officers and officer handlers;
WHEREAS; Canine Officer Alex, who has. served the Department valiantly for the
past Three (3) plus years as a certified North American Police Dog, has participated in
numerous law enforcement. activities, conducting over Two Hundred (20Q) sweeps,
involved in over Sixty (60) drug related arrests, and involved in numerous searches, drug
and p roperty seizu res,,and. cash. seizures during his short time. with the Department; and,
WHEREAS, due. to retirement of Officer Boyd, Canine Alex remains able to
complete all of the duties normally assigned. to a Canine Officer, but Officer Boyd has
requested Alex be retired: acid has compensated the City accordingly. Alex's brave service
to the City warrants appropriate care for the remainder of his life, which will be provided
by Off. Boyd. Because State law, City policy, and Police Department policy allows for
Canine Officers to be relinquished. and transferred to their Officer Handlers, the City
Council hereby agrees to do so.
NOW THEREFORE, BELT RESOL VED 6Y THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF7ACKSOVVILLE, ARKANSAS; THA T.-
SECTION ONE: In appreciation and support of his years of.service and
dedication to the Jacksonville. Police Department, the City of Jacksonville. expresses its
gratitude and recognition of Carlin. Officer Alex's retirement from service. In accordance
with State law; City policy; Police Department policy, and other.applicable provisions, the
City Council authorizesrelinquishment of Canine Alex to his. handler, Off. Regina Boyd,
and thanks Off. Boyd far her dedication to Alex and the City of Jacksonville..
SECTION TWO: Any and all other Resolutions `in conflict herewith .are
hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. This Resolution shalt be in effect from and
after its date of passage.
