0462 ji RESOLUTION NO. 462 ( #4 -93) A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR ARKANSAS' LIBRARY MILLAGE CAMPAIGN; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, public libraries are the institutions with the responsibility to provide lifelong learning opportunities through books, periodicals, media, and other information meeting the needs of citizens striving to improve the quality of life; and, WHEREAS public libraries cooperate with and support community educational institutions and economic development efforts, but must have adequate funding to provide the essential resources, staff, and facilities to meet the needs of the people. Local funding for support of Arkansas' public libraries is among the lowest in the nation, and it is essential to Jacksonville's continued growth and development to have a well— funded, modern public library as an information resource for all citizens; and, WHEREAS, the public, acting under the terms of Amendment 72, filed their petitions with the appropriate public officials and insured an election will be held on July 27, 1993, for the purpose of voting on a proposed new levy for improved public library services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT: SECTION ONE; The City Council of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, endorses improving public library services and encourages its citizens to support the passage of the new library levy on July 27, 1993. SECTION TWO: A copy of the Resolution shall be provided to The Coalition for Public Libraries, and that group is hereby authorized to announce this endorsement and utilize such in its campaign for passage of this new library levy. SECTION THREE: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. SECTION FOUR; This Resolution shall be in effect from and after its date of passage. APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS ' st DAY OF JULY, 1993.
