0456 RESOLUTION N0. 456 ( #14 -92) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY ESTHER DEWITT NIXON TO THE JACKSONVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY; CHANGING THE NAME OF THE JACKSONVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY TO THE ESTHER DEWITT NIXON PUBLIC LIBRARY; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the Jacksonville Public Library serves a vital purpose in providing Jacksonville citizens with access to books, periodicals, media, and other information providing lifelong learning opportunities improving the quality of life for the citizens of Jacksonville; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Esther Nixon was instrumental in the development and operation of the Jacksonville Public Library since one opened in November 1959, remaining a devoted patron and faithful steward since her retirement in 1986; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Nixon went above and beyond the call of duty during her tenure, providing countless book reviews and literary columns to our local newspapers and serving to provide another information source to the citizens of Jacksonville. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT: SECTION ONE: The City Council of the City of Jacksonville hereby commends Mrs. Esther Nixon for her countless, untiring, and dedicated service rendered to the citizens of Jacksonville through her time at the Jacksonville Public Library. SECTION TWO: The name of the Jacksonville Public Library shall hereby be changed and shall be known hereafter as The Esther DeWitt Nixon Public Library as a tribute to Mrs. Nixon's dedication to the citizens of Jacksonville. SECTION THREE: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. SECTION FOUR: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage, as provided by and subject to applicable law. APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS THIRD DAY OF DECEMBER, 1992.
