RESOLUTION NO. 633 ( #12 - 2009)
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE SELECTION
AND DEVELOPMENT OF REAL PROPERTY AT THE SOUTHEAST
CORNER OF WOOTEN ROAD AND INTERSTATE 440 FOR THE
NEW STATE FAIRGROUNDS LOCATION; AND, FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville has learned that the State Fair
Grounds Board is seeking a site for development of a new and centrally
located Fair Grounds for the Central Arkansas area. As a result,
Jacksonville believes it has a well- suited and appropriate location worthy of
serious consideration by the Board in its selection process; and,
WHEREAS, the Jacksonville City Council recommends use of an over
Four Hundred (400) acre site at the Southeast corner of Wooten Road and
Interstate 440. The City believes that this site satisfies all criteria currently
being sought by the Board, as it provides a central location with multiple
thoroughfare access for greater traffic control and planning, has unlimited
potential for open development of a user friendly and safe State Fairgrounds
environment, carries advantages in potential site development through
assistance and enticements with development costs by and through the
City of Jacksonville and willing entities with possible land acquisition and
coordination, planning, and ultimate site development, and the site is
perfect for creation and design of a water feature (as desired by the Board).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION ONE: The City Council of the City of Jacksonville,
Arkansas, expresses its complete support for the selection and creation of a
new State Fairgrounds at the Southeast corner of Wooten Road and
Interstate 440 in our community. It is the City Council's belief that such a
potential Fairgrounds site at that designated location serves all purposes of
the State Fairgrounds Board and Site Selection Committee, can provide
great enhancement for use both as a State Fairgrounds and also to all of
the Jacksonville community through providing an enhanced and improved
educational facility(ies) and opportunities for our community's youth and
the enhancement of our City.
SECTION TWO: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. This Resolution
shall be in effect from and after its date of passage.
