RESOLUTION NO. 615 ( #8 - 08)
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE CREATION OF
AN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE CITY OF
JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the State of Arkansas and the City of Jacksonville values
each child's right to a quality education and having a quality school system
within each community that is attractive to prospective residents;
WHEREAS, the Jacksonville City Council has long been dedicated to
the needed enhancement of the educational process and personal attention
currently offered and provided to students within the City of Jacksonville;
WHEREAS, all citizens of our community are affected by the lack of
local control of the school system currently available to students within the
City of Jacksonville; and,
WHEREAS, the creation of an Independent School District for
Jacksonville can be achieved with minor disruption to students or teachers
and at no additional local or state costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION ONE: The City Council of the City of Jacksonville,
Arkansas, expresses its continued support for the creation of an
Independent School District for the City of Jacksonville. It is the City
Council's belief and position that an Independent School District is vital to
the opportunity for an improved education for our community's youth and
for the enhancement of our City.
SECTION TWO: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. This Resolution
shall be in effect from and after its date of passage.
