RESOLUTION NO. 612 ( #5 - 2008)
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN OFFER OF GIFT FOR THE JOINT
EDUCATION CENTER TO BE CONSTRUCTED AT THE LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE
BASE; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville, together with the Little Rock Air Force Base desire
to construct a Joint Education Center upon the grounds of the Little Rock Air Force Base for the
benefit of both civilian and military members alike; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville will utilize sales tax monies in the amount of Five
Million Doliars ($5,000,000.00) for the benefit of and establishment, operation, and maintenance
of a Joint Education Center for its citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OFIACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT;
SECTION ONE: The City of Jacksonville hereby authorizes, per the voters'
directive in the 2003 Sales Tax Election to designate the amount of Five Million Dollars
($5,000,000.00) to the Secretary of the Air Force, acting on behalf of the United States of
America, for use in connection with the establishment, operation, and maintenance of a Joint
Education Center to be constructed upon the grounds of the Little Rock Air Force Base.
SECTION TWO: Tommy Swaim, Mayor, and Susan Davitt, City Clerk, are hereby
authorized and directed to execute all appropriate documents necessary to transfer said funds,
and expedite the construction and completion of the Little Rock Air Force Base Joint Education
Center.
SECTION THREE: The City Council pledges its full support and hereby directs full
cooperation with the Little Rock Air Force Base to implement this project.
SECTION FOUR: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of said conflict. This Resolution shall be in effect from and after its date
of passage.
