0606 0001.;:.% RESOLUTION NO. 606 ( #7 - 2007) A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING COACH JOYNER'S CHARACTER STANDARDS PROGRAM FOR JACKSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ATHLETICS; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS, Coach Victor Joyner, Head Basketball Coach of Jacksonville High Y � 9 School, recently announced that he has instituted a requirement that any player of the Jacksonville High School Basketball Program satisfy certain character and behavior standards before being allowed to join or continue participation in the Basketball Program at Jacksonville High; WHEREAS, a return to implementation of genuine character and integrity standards can only serve to enhance any young person's life, particularly those allowed to participate in extracurricular activities such as basketball. Coach Joyner is to be praised for his "return to basics" standards, and it is an example to be followed by all educators in their efforts to teach and train our community's young people. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT: SECTION ONE: Coach Victor Joyner, Head Basketball Coach for Jacksonville High School, is to be applauded for his recent implementation of character and integrity standards for members of the Jacksonville High School Basketball Program. It serves as a reminder that participation in extracurricular activities such as basketball is a privilege, not a right, and is to be earned not only by athletic skills and talent but through meeting other more important character and behavioral standards as well. SECTION TWO: It is the hope of the City Council that other area educators will take Coach Joyner's Character Standards Program and implement similar requirements in every aspect of their particular educational endeavors so as to affect all young members of the Jacksonville community. Doing so can only serve to enhance every young person's life far beyond their elementary and secondary educational years. SECTION THREE: This Resolution shall be in effect from and after its date of passage.
