0593 RESOLUTION NO. 593 ( #6 - 06)
A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE PULASKI COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION
PLAN; EXPRESSING SUPPORT AND APPRECIATION FOR THE PLANNING
MEMBERS; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES,
WHEREAS, Pulaski County has experienced severe damage from flooding,
tornadoes, severe winter weather, and other natural hazards on many occasions in
the past century, all of which resulted in property loss, loss of life, economic
hardship, and threats to public health and safety;
WHEREAS, in recognizing the threat that natural hazards pose to citizens and
property, undertaking hazard mitigation actions before disasters occur will reduce
the potential for harm to people and property and save taxpayer dollars;
WHEREAS, The Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (and FEMA) now
requires communities to adopt a hazard mitigation plan to be eligible for pre- disaster
and post- disaster federal funding; and,
WHEREAS, Pulaski County participated jointly in the planning process with
other local government entities within the County to prepare a hazard mitigation
plan, and the Plan recommends many hazard mitigation actions that will protect the
people and property affected by natural hazards that face Pulaski County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION ONE: The Pulaski County Hazard Mitigation Plan is hereby
adopted as an official plan of Pulaski County and the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
SECTION TWO: We support Pulaski County's efforts to submit, on behalf
of the participating municipalities, the adopted Hazard Mitigation Plan to Federal
Emergency Management Agency officials for final review and approval.
SECTION THREE: Appreciation and support are expressed for the time,
effort, and expertise that contributed to the Plan.
SECTION FOUR: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict.
SECTION FIVE: This Resolution shall be in effect from and after its date
of passage.
