0553 RESOLUTION NO. 553 ( #13 - 01)
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE PROPOSED STATE SENATE REDISTRICTING PLAN;
AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, current revision proposals of the State Senate Redistricting Plan boundary lines
causes great concern to citizens and officials of the City of Jacksonville. As proposed, the City of
Jacksonville would be divided between two Senate Districts as a minor part of each proposed
District; and,
WHEREAS, the current proposal of State Senate District lines would result in an unfair
distribution of population, prevent effective and efficient local representation on issues affecting
Jacksonville citizens and officials, and would greatly inhibit the ability of area citizens to obtain fair
representation in the State Senate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION ONE: The City Council hereby expresses its opposition to the proposed State
Senate Redistricting Plan as it affects the citizens of Jacksonville, Arkansas. A redistricting plan
that divides the City of Jacksonville between two districts will greatly inhibit the ability of the
citizens of Jacksonville to obtain fair representation. The Council strongly believes that the plan,
as proposed, is not in the best interests of the citizens of Jacksonville and should be modified.
SECTION TWO: The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a certified copy of this
Resolution to the Offices of the Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General, and the City
Council requests that the Mayor present a copy of this Resolution at one (or both) of the public
hearings to be held regarding this matter on July 24, 2001 and /or on August 2, 2001. The City
Council further urges all citizens to appear at one or both of the public meetings to voice
opposition to the Redistricting Plan as proposed.
SECTION THREE: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of said conflict.
