RESOLUTION NO. 3 0 8 (1 -83)
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO DRAFT AND PASS
LEGISLATION DEALING WITH CITIES VOTING ON LIQUOR OPTIONS BY PRECINCTS.
WHEREAS, The Wet /Dry Question is a very important decision
that affects the whole community and therefore needs to be decided by
the whole community and not just a certain faction.
WHEREAS, The problems that a dry community will experience
with just a part going wet can nor will be limited to that particular
area, these potential problems will bleed over the boundaries of a
precinct into portions of that city that will have no voice in to
such matter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS:
That we urge the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas to
enact legislation prohibiting the voting by precinct on the issue of
local liquor options for cities having a pupulation of 50,000 residents
or less and that Arkansas Statutes Annotated Section 48 -801 be amended
to this effect.
