RESOLUTION NO. 214 -78
WHEREAS, Attorney General Griffin Bell and the Carter
Administration are proposing many changes in the funding and
operation of the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration; and
WHEREAS, municipal governments and their police officers
are on the front line in defense of the citizens against crime;
and
WHEREAS, municipal police make more than 75% of all arrests
in the state of Arkansas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Jacksonville, Arkansas City
Council, that we urge the Arkansas Congressional Delegation to use
Their influence and voted to restructure the L.E.A.A. so that a
maximum amount of resources will flow to the municipal governments
who are on the front line in the fight against crime.
We also urge Congress to provide adquate funds for local
criminal justice planning.
That a copy of this resolution be sent to each member of the
Arkansas Congressional Delegation and a copy mailed to the member
cities and towns in Arkansas.
This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage and approval.
