WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jack-
sonville, hereby fully realizes and knows that their city
and other cities in Pulaski County, Arkansas, have in the
past had a lower utility rate from the Arkansas - Louisiana
Gas Company than other areas of the State of Arkansas, and. . .
WHEREAS, the Council fully realizes and knows
that the costs involved in providing these utility services
have increased in the immediate past and therefore the
Arkansas - Louisiana Gas Company may be justified in seeking
some rate increase, said Council hereby respectfully declares
to the Public Service Commission for the State of Arkansas
that it feels and believes that the proposed rate increase
by the Arkansas- Louisiana Gas Company is excessive and en-
tirely too great and that said rate increase will and does
cause undue hardship at this time on the citizens and business
enterprises of Jacksonville.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
Jacksonville hereby declares that it believes that the pro-
posed rate increase is unjustified in its size and magnitude.
That while conceding that some rate increase may be justified,
the Council states that any increase should be lower than
that proposed by Arkla Gas; and rather than have an increase
which will become effective immediately, said rate increase
should occur gradually over a period of the next two or three
years.
