APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Brannen moved, seconded by Commissioner Healey to approve the regularly scheduled meeting minutes of November 14, 2016. MOTION CARRIED.
VARIANCE(S): Signage Variance 1300 North Redmond Road
Chairman White opened the public hearing at approximately 6:50 p.m.
Mr. Richard Hammon, General Manager A1 Freeman Moving Group, explained that they recently purchased the warehouse previously occupied by Apache Moving & Storage. He related that the
building is over 200’ from the road, and is tucked in behind larger warehouses. He stated that the building is hard to find unless you are just right in front of it. He stated that
the larger signage would help them be identified. He cited issues with new employees and other people who have had difficulty finding the warehouse. He stated that the warehouse is
over 200’ across and the proposed signage is not oversized for the amount of square footage. He noted that the total signage square footage is 540 square foot with most of that being
the circle logo part of the signage. He pointed out that this is a new business to Jacksonville and they want to be able to be readily identified.
City Engineer Whisker noted that 300 square feet is the maximum, expressing that the building is large and wide enough, adding that it sits back further from the road compared to the
buildings adjacent to this property.
Mr. Hammon offered that the signage will not look out of place comparable to the size of the building. The Board was provided photos with signage closely to scale regarding the size
of the building. He reiterated that any smaller signage would be hard to discern from the road. He noted that the measurements in the letter are incorrect, adding that he would be
happy to provide the true measurements of the sign letters, explaining that the square footage of 543 is correct.
Commissioner Brannen moved, seconded by Commissioner Healey to approve the sign variance at 1300 North Redmond Road as requested. MOTION CARRIED.
Chairman White closed the public hearing at approximately 6:57 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT:
Without objection, Chairman White adjourned the meeting at approximately 6:57 p.m. MOTION CARRIED.
Respectfully,
