APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Brannen moved, seconded by Commissioner Scholl to approve the regularly scheduled meeting minutes of June 12, 2017. MOTION CARRIED.
VARIANCE(S): Sign Package Variance 1801 T.P. White Drive, Shark’s Restaurant
Chairman White opened the public hearing at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Petitioner Mr. Mohammad Damra, co-owner of Shark’s Restaurant d.b.a. A & K Little Rock, Inc. related that his partner was not able to attend tonight’s meeting, but had related to him
that the signage on the building equals the same square footage that is allowable. He stated that this was split between three signs, adding that the main reason for three signs is
to have visibility from the Highway.
City Engineer Whisker related that City Code allows one sign per street frontage, explaining that there is an alley way adjacent to this property that runs from the north side of Shark’s
onto the Taco Bell property and that was used as street frontage for the second sign. He explained that they were allowed two signs and are now requesting a third sign that was placed
on top of the structure. He stated that in order to comply with the sign ordinance they had to either remove one of the signs or apply for a variance regarding the third sign. He
then related that the Code does allow for 200 square feet per sign, saying that they have 400 square feet that is divided between three signs.
With no one else from the audience presenting to speak, Chairman White closed the public hearing at approximately 6:35 p.m.
Commissioner Brannen moved to deny the variance request regarding a third sign for Shark’s Restaurant at 1801 T.P. White Drive. MOTION FAILED due to lack of a SECOND.
Mr. Damra stated that he and his partner would be willing to work with the City regarding any conditions that would facilitate approval. He added that they did not intend to break any
rules when the third sign was installed.
Commissioner Scholl moved, seconded by Commissioner Brittenum to approve the variance request for a third sign for Shark’s Restaurant at 1801 T.P. White Drive. MOTION CARRIED with Chairman
White voting AYE.
