MINUTES: BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT SPECIAL MEETING
DATE AND TIME: March 20, 2013 4:00 p.m. – 4:16 p.m.
ATTENDANCE: Commissioners: Jim Moore, Leroy Akridge
and Chairman Ott were present.
City Engineer Whisker and Code Enforcement Officer Manny Browder were present.

City Clerk Susan Davitt recorded those listed above in attendance and Chairman Ott declared a quorum.
APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
VARIANCE(S): Sign Package Variance 8106 T.P. White Drive (Ace Liquor)
Chairman Ott opened the public hearing at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The new owner and petitioner Mr. Nick Pierce presented the board with complete sign package illustrating the signs to be removed and the designs for the proposed signage.
Mr. Pierce related other outside improvements to the building and grounds, pointing out that he recently painted the outside of the building, restriped the parking lot, reworked the
existing flower beds, and added additional lighting for the building and parking lot. He then added that he has further plans to install even more lights to improve the lighting of
the parking lot at night.
He then reviewed exhibits 1 through 5 featuring the changes being proposed.
Exhibit 1 proposes to move the “Ace Liquor Center” letters up higher on the building and to install narrow tube lighting along the gutter edge of the roof. He then added that he is also
proposing to remove the red balloon awning and construct a stucco or metal awning enhancement at the entry area without extending the space.
City Engineer Whisker noted that some of the proposals are within compliance, explaining that Mr. Pierce is submitted even the proposals that would not fit into the sign package variance.
He added that the entry way construction project would not be under the purview of the Board of Adjustment and is within compliance.
Exhibit 2 proposes to remove the Ace Liquor street signage, which consist of 3 individual signs and replace it with one new LED sign 7’5” X 11’4”.
Exhibit 3 proposes to remove the white Ace Liquor Center sign along with two other sign located on the same sign frame located in the middle of the property toward street frontage and
replace it with an updated 7’ X 11’ lighted sign with new logo and message board with tri-color display. It was noted that the new sign is the same size as the existing sign.

Discussion ensued and it was agreed that the address for the property that is located on the sign would be removed and displayed on the building.
Exhibit 4 proposes to remove the flat wooden “Ace Liquor Center” sign and the “Coors Light-Cold Hard Facts” sign on the south end of the property with no replacement signage.
Further discussion ensued and Mr. Pierce agreed to remove the signage with 30 days to remove the sign frame unless utilized by a local business.
Exhibit 5 proposed to add a white neon outline to the lights on the arrow part of the “Ace Liquor” sign located on the side of the driveway.
Chairman Ott closed the public hearing at approximately 6:15 p.m.
Commissioner Moore moved, seconded by Commissioner Akridge to approve the sign packed as outlined with 30 days to remove the south end sign removed if not utilized by a local business.
MOTION CARRIED with Chairman voting AYE.
ADJOURNMENT:
Without objection, Chairman Ott adjourned the meeting at approximately 6:16 p.m. MOTION CARRIED.
