MOTION CARRIED.
VARIANCE(S): Off Premise Sign Request 2650 John Harden Drive Quiksilver
Plaza
Chairman Keaton opened the public hearing at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Preston Robinson stated that he intends to use the existing structural
sign that identifies the Quiksilver Plaza on the top, adding that he would
like to add an LED message center sign just below that. He related that
the LED sign would primarily be used for the occupants of the Plaza but
would also be used for other advertisements regarding commercial property
owned by him that is available for lease.
City Engineer Whisker explained that the reason for the variance is that
the signage would carry off-premise advertisements. He added that there
are not very many off-premise signs in the City of Jacksonville, pointing
out that the last off-premise signage variance was granted to the shopping
center (Fuller Commercial Center) across from City Hall. He then noted
other LED signage at Walgreens and Gwatney Chevrolet that are used only
for advertising their onsite business. He reiterated that while Mr.
Robinson’s sign would mostly carry advertisements for the businesses
located onsite, Mr. Robinson would like the option of being able to
advertise for his businesses and commercial property that are off-premise.
Alderman Howard moved, seconded by Commissioner Ott to approve the request
for an LED sign at 2650 John Harden Drive to carry off-premise advertising.
MOTION CARRIED.
Chairman Keaton closed the public hearing at approximately 6:33 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT:
Without objection, Chairman Keaton adjourned the meeting at approximately
6:33 p.m. MOTION CARRIED.
Respectfully,
