White/Gwatney Chevrolet Acting Chairman Cummings opened the public hearing at approximately 6:31 p.m. Mr. Jim Durham, representing Gwatney Chevrolet, related that Gwatney Chevrolet had a GM sign attached to a post with a zip tie which is not in compliance with the sign code. He added that Gwatney Chevrolet had inquired what they would need to do in order to be in compliance with the ordinance. He then related that after speaking with himself, City Engineer Jay Whisker, and Mayor Fletcher it was suggested that they install a permanent sign where the sign face could be changed to accommodate various advertising needs. He further explained that the signage would be a frame type base that could accommodate sign changes. He stated that this would be a vehicle maintenance sign for advertise specials. He stated that Mayor Fletcher endorses this request. In response to a question from Commissioner Akridge, City Engineer Jay Whisker answered that typically temporary signage does not look very attractive. He stated that other issues of temporary signage in the City are being addressed and business owners are asked to put signage on a permanent bracket, which would allow for changing the sign messages as desired. Alderman Howard moved, seconded by Commissioner Ott to approve the sign variance as request at 1301 T.P. White Drive for Gwatney Chevrolet. MOTION CARRIED.
