APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
VARIANCE(S): a. Setback Variance at #19 Georgeann
Chairman Traylor opened the public hearing at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Mrs. Linda Batiste related that she had been granted a variance from the Board of Adjustment in November, adding that the measurements of 18’ X 20’ were incorrect. She stated that she
is requesting a footage adjustment regarding the variance. She explained that her construction company was scheduled to begin work on the 20th but has had to be delayed. She related
that she has had to pay the contractor an additional $1,000.00 to delay beginning the work. She related that she is requesting a 22’ X 24’ addition to her home.
City Engineer Whisker explained that the house is located on a corner lot and according to the plat was built facing the wrong street frontage. He stated that the house faces Park Street.
He related that since the lot is a corner lot there are no site distance issues. He stated that the additional variance would bring the addition 4’ closer to the street frontage.
Mrs. Batiste explained that because of the way the house is situated on the lot, the distance to the property line is 39.5 feet from the existing construction.
Mrs. Batiste related her appreciation to the Board for allowing her to have a special hearing.
In response to a question posed by Commissioner Gray regarding the not-to-scale drawing and the visual presentation of the addition, City Engineer Whisker stated that the addition would
be approximately 17.5’ from the property line. He then noted that a standard corner lot side yard setback is 15 feet, adding that given the curve in the street there would be no visual
distortion regarding the lineup of houses on proper setbacks.
Mrs. Batiste noted that her driveway is 64’ in length.
Commissioner Gray moved, seconded by Commissioner Keaton to grant the setback variance as needed for a 22’ X 24’ addition at #19 Georgeann. MOTION CARRIED with Chairman Traylor voting
AYE.
Chairman Traylor closed the public hearing at approximately 6:46 p.m.
