Boroughs PETITIONERS: Variance requested: Joe Oliver 512 Brewer Street Front Yard Setback (Chapter 18.68.050 Jax. Mun. Code) __________________________________________________________________ City Clerk-Treasurer Lula M. Hawkins recorded those listed above in attendance and Vice Chairman Bob Walker declared a quorum. APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES: Commissioner Nabors moved, seconded by Commissioner Hardwick that the minutes of the Board of Adjustment Meeting of July 13, 1998 be APPROVED. MOTION CARRIED. VARIANCE REQUEST: Mr. Joe Oliver representing the request for a carport extension in the front yard at 512 Brewer Street Vice Chairman Walker pointed out that the variance is to add a 16' X 16' carport in front of the existing one at the residence. Mr. Oliver said that it appears that a nine (9) ft. variance is needed for the construction. He said that posts, not an enclosed carport, is projected. The size of the carport at present was discussed with Mr. Oliver commenting that a portion of the original one has been converted to part of the dining area. Comments were made with regard to houses in the area and City Engineer Reel related that the particular subdivision in which the lot exists bears a 25' front yard setback and that he did not know why the houses set back a greater distance than that from the street. There were comments with regard to the truck being wider due to mirrors making the addition desirable. City Engineer voiced that as long as vision is not impaired by a solid wall, that poles are used in the construction, he did not see a problem with the construction. Mr. Oliver related that the gable roof will tie into the existing roof. MINUTES: BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT DATE AND TIME: August 10, 1998 / 6:30 p.m. 6:45 p.m. It was suggested by Commissioner Boroughs that the petitioner present written consent, to the City Engineer, from immediate neighbors on each side of the residence with regard to the construction. Commissioner Boroughs moved, seconded by Commissioner Nabors, to grant the variance to construct a carport, as presented, with the written consent of adjoining neighbors presented to the City Engineer upon requesting a building permit. MOTION CARRIED. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Hardwick moved, seconded by Commissioner Nabors that the meeting adjourn at approximately 6:45 p.m. MOTION CARRIED. Respectfully, __________________________ _________________________ Lula M. Hawkins Bob Walker City Clerk-Treasurer Vice Chairman
