City Clerk Lula M. Leonard recorded those listed above in atten dance and Chairman Brannen declared a quorum.
APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Nabors moved, seconded by Commissioner John Hardwick that the minutes of the Board of Adjustment Meeting of March 26, 1997 be APPROVED. MOTION CARRIED.
VARIANCE REQUEST: Sign size variance (Ch. 18.76.030 Jax. Mun. Code)
Chairman Brannen introduced the item of business.
J & B Media Inc. representatives, Brian Jones and Danny Brooks were present. Mr. Brooks related that it is difficult, if not impossible, to take a 200 square foot sign and market it
when sandwiched between 300 square foot signs. He requested that they be granted a sign comparable to the other signs erected along Highway 67-167.
He said there are about four sizes of outdoor advertising signs according the national advertising standards; 10'6" X 36' which is the request before the Board, 10' X 40', and 14' X
48'.
He explained that the sign will be painted or vinyl and that it will be as close to the right of way of Highway 67-167 as the other signs along the freeway.
City Engineer voiced that an error was made in determinations requiring a public hearing before the Board of Adjustment, that the 10'6" X 36' sign will comply with the Jacksonville Municipal
Code and that a refund of the $50.00 fee is in order.
Commissioner Hardwick moved, seconded by Commissioner Nabors that the $50.00 fee, paid by J & B Media Inc., be refunded due to an
error by the City of Jacksonville in requiring a public hearing that was not necessary with regard to the square footage of a sign to be erected along Highway 67-167 on the property
of Tommy Dupree. MOTION CARRIED.
