PETITIONER: Otis P. and Beverly A. Mearidy
Variance requested: Waiver for operation of a Child Care
Facility in an C-2 zone.
Violation of Chapter 18.44.020 of the
Jacksonville Municipal Code Book.

City Clerk Lula M. Leonard recorded those listed above in atten dance. Acting Chairman Brannen declared a quorum was present.
APPROVAL AND/OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Reid moved, seconded by Commissioner Boroughs that the minutes of the Board of Adjustment Meeting of June 7, 1995 be APPROVED. MOTION CARRIED.
Acting Chairman Brannen introduced the item of business and invited the petitioner to speak pro-actively.
Mr. J. C. James pointed out that adjoining properties are also zoned C-2. He related that the property would be unsuitable for residential use, but would be perfect for the operation
of a day care facility.
City Engineer Reel related that the City Council has recently changed the ordinance with regard to day care facilities outlined as a conditional use for all zones. He then related that
he and Mr. Mearidy were able to work out a solution for the drop-off and pick-up of the children on Main Street instead of South Oak Street because of traffic concerns.
Mr. Mearidy explained the drop-off procedure involved and presented a layout of the area. He pointed out a small parking lot in the back of the building which will be used for employee
parking.
Discussion ensued as to the layout of parking and drop-off of the children. It was pointed out that with regard to traffic concerns most of the children will be dropped off by 7:00
a.m. Comments were made that it is ideal for day care because of its close location to an elementary school. It was pointed out that Mrs. Mearidy holds a state license which allows
for a maximum of twenty-four children.

July 12, 1995 minutes continued:
Commissioner Baldwin moved, seconded by Commissioner Reid and Boroughs to approve the conditional use of a day care facility located at 101 South Oak Street. MOTION CARRIED.
ADJOURNMENT:
Commissioner Boroughs moved, seconded by Commissioner Reid to adjourn the meeting at approximately 4:20 p.m.
