A RESOL UTION EXPRESSING A PPRECIA TION FOR CANINE OFFICER
ACE UPON HIS RETIREMEIN� IN SUPPORT OFTRANSFERRING

OWNERSHIP AND RESPONS ILITY OF CANINE OFFICER ACE TO
HIS HANDLER, OFF. ..JOHNINY HICKS; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville has utilized canine officers for many years with
success for both the K9 officers. a..nd. equally successful K9 officer handlers;
WHEREAS, Canine Officer Ace, who has served the Department valiantly for the
past Three (3) years as a certified North American Police Dog alongside Officer Johnny
Hicks, has ied Jacksonville Police Department in. its Community Oriented Policing efforts
and. has participated in numerous law enforcement activities over the relatively short
timeframe. Canine Officer Ace and Officer Hicks conducted over Two Hundred (200)
sweeps, have been involved in over One Hundred Twenty (120)drug related arrests,.
were involved in.riumerous searches, drug and property seizures involving almost One
Thousand Five. Hundred Grams (1500 g.) in..drugs, over One Hundred Sixty (160) non-
prescriptive. pills; and. n u me. ro us weapon. recoveries/seizures, cash and vehicle forfeitures,
and other major accomplishments during his service to the citizens of.JacksonviIle; and,.
WHEREAS, due to a decline in activity, his age and. physical condition, and the
resignation of Officer Hicks, Canine Ace is having more difficulty completing all duties
normally assigned to a Canine Officer. Ace's brave service to the City warrants
appropriate care for the remainder of his life, which will be. provided by Off. Hicks.
Because State law,. City policy; and Police Department policy allows for Canine Officers to
be relinquished and transferred under approved circumstances and conditions to their
Officer Handlers, the. City Council hereby.agrees to do so.
NOW, THEREFORE, HET RESOL VED 8 Y THE CITYCOUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF]ACCSOiNVILLE, ARKANSAI S, THA T:
SECTION ONE: In. appreciation and support of the years of service and
dedication to the Jacksonville Police Department, the City of Jacksonville expresses its
gratitude and recognition of Canine Officer Ace's retirement from K9 service. In
accordance with State law; City policy, and Police Department policy, the City. Council
authorizes relinquishment of Canine Ace to his handler, Off. Johnny Hicks, and thanks
Off. Hicks for his dedication to Ace and K9 law enforcement service.

SECTION TWO: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the -extent of said conflict. This. Resolution shall be. ire effect from and
after its date of passage.
