RESOLUTION NO. 7668 (#05 — 2018)
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ELECTRONICS RECYCLING
WEEK,APRIL 23-.28, .2018; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
WHEREAS, an estimated Six Thousand (6,000) tons of electronic waste in
Arkansas is recycled on an annual basis, but that only represents approximately
Twelve Percent (12%) of all annually generated electronic waste. Sadly, electronic
waste represents over Seventy Percent (70%) of all hazardous waste deposited. in
landfills and Two Percent (20Io.) of all trash deposited in. landfills;
WHEREAS, Americans discard over Sixty Million. Dollars ($60,000,000.00)
annually in. gold and silver components contained in old cell phones, not to mention
the valuable components copper and palladium also present in old cell phones; and,
WHEREAS, because electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream in
Arkansas, yet electronic waste is not waste at all but represents equipment and
components that are recyclable, the City Council promotes electronics recycling.

SECTION ONE: Electronic Waste, known as e -waste, should be
promoted as a category or commodity and identified as hazardous and recyclable. All.
residential households, businesses; .and institutions are encouraged to participate in
local or regional e -waste collection and recycling programs, and government. entities
responsible for solid waste, hazardous waste and recycling. programs recognize the.
week of April 23 - 28.;. 2018 as Electronic Recycling Week. The City pledges to assist in
and promote: the special e -waste collection for `residents, businesses. and. institutions
in. Pulaski County at Verizon Arena in. North tittle Rock, Arkansas, on Wednesday, April.
25t", and Thursday, April 26th , 2018.
