AN ORDINANCE GIVING AUTHORITY FOR THE LOCATION AND LA
PLACEMENT OF FIRE HYDRANTS IN THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE
TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OF
THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND
FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Fire Department has as its object and purpose
to control and prevent fire and also the protection of life and
property within the City.
WHEREAS, the location and placement of fire hydrants is
essential to the fighting of fires and proper engineering is
essential in the placement of fire hydrants for the purpose
of maintaining sufficient fire fighting pressures.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

Section 1. All subdivisions located within the City of
Jacksonville, Arkansas, have the following minimum requirements:

d. Fire hydrants in residential areas shall be no less
than 1000' apart.
Section II. The City of Jacksonville vests the interpretation
of closer placement of fire hydrants as set forth in the National
Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) handbook of fire protection
and Municipal Fire Administration in the authority of the Fire Chief
in conjunction with the City Engineer.
Section III. If any section, sentence, or clause of this
Ordinance shall be declared to be unconstitutional or invalid,
same shall not defeat the balance of this Ordinance.

Section IV. This Ordinance supercedes any other Ordinance
or part of any other Ordinance in conflict with the provisions
set forth herein.
Section V. This Ordinance being necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health, safety, welfare and
morale of the citizens of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas,
an emergency is hereby declared to exist and the above Ordinance
shall be in full force and effect immediately after its passage.
