AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE KEEPING OF BEES, DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the attributes of bees are well known and desirous for
the community as a whole but may nevertheless constitute a nuisance in
certain instances;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, that:
Section 1. There is hereby added to the Municipal Code of Jack-
sonville, Arkansas, Chapter 6.10, Bees, which is to read as follows:
§6.10.010. It shall be unlawful to keep bees and /or beehives unless

such bees or beehives are located more than 489'feet from the nearest
residence or business or industrial structure other than that of the owner
of the bees or beehives.
§6.10.020. If the beekeeper's property is Itace=tisain one -half acre, o U
there shall be a limit of hives which shall be allowed on said
property and if the beekeeper's property exceeds one -half acre, there
shall be no limit to the number of bee hives that shall be allowed on said
property. However, the number of, placement of or manner of keeping
bees and beehives shall not be allowed to become a nuisance to other per-
sons in the enjoyment of their own property and any unreasonable interfer-
ence with the rights of other persons in the enjoyment of their property
or any violation of the provisions of this Chapter
shall constitute a misdemeanor. Any violations shall be prosecuted by
the aggrieved party filing charges.
§6.10.030. Any existing beekeeper not in compliance with the pre-
ceding sections at the time of their enactment shall be allowed 3 (J days
within which to comply therewith. After such period of time any aggrieved
party may prosecute any beekeeper who is not in compliance therewith.
Section 2. This ordinance being necessary for the immediate pre-
servation of the public health, safety, welfare and morale of the citizens
of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, an emergency is hereby declared to

exist and this ordinance shall have full force and effect immediately after
its passage. /
