ORDINANCE NO. � ‘"?
AN ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO THE NAMING OF STREETS AND SUB-
DIVISIONS, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACK-
SONVILLE, ARKANSAS, that:
SECTION ONE. There are hereby added to the Municipal Code of the
City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, the following provisions, which are to read
as follows:
Section 17.20.150. No subdivision plat shall be accepted and approved
which contains any street name or subdivision name which is confusingly
similar to an existing street or subdivision name within the city limits.
Section 17.20.160. All street suffixes shall be designated as follows:
1. Straight Streets
A. Streets which run east and west or within 45 of east and
west and are more than two blocks in length shall be
designated as "Street ".
B. Streets which run north and south or within 45 of north
and south are more than two blocks in length shall be
designated as "Drive ".
C. Straight streets which are less than three blocks in
length, regardless of which direction they run, shall be
designated "Lane ".
2. Curving Streets
A. All streets which have several curves or at least one sharp
curve shall be designated "Road ".
B. Streets not over one block long which are circular and which
begin on one street and end on the same street or on another
nearby street shall be designated "Circle ".
C. Cul -de -Sac or Dead End Streets
A. Streets which are not over one block long and which end
in a cul -de -sac or in a dead end shall be designated as
"Court".

4. Continuous Streets
A. Continuous streets shall have the same name whether in-
side or outside the municipality.
5. Street Jogs
Streets which are actually the same street but which are inter-
rupted by a jog of less than 120 feet between the center line of
the two streets shall be given the same name."
Section 17.20. 170. The planning commission shall have the authority,
with the consent of the City Council, to change the names of existing streets
bearing the same name or confusingly similar names. Before changing any
street name, fifteen (15) days public notice shall be given in a newspaper having
a general circulation within the City of Jacksonville that a public hearing shall
be conducted by the planning commission for such purpose and said notice shall
designate the date, time and place of said hearing and the streets affected by
said hearing.
Section 17.20.180. In order to change the name of any street, it
must be determined that the public interest, convenience and necessity would
best be served by such a name change. The planning commission shall con-
sider the length, age and such other factors as may be pertinent in deciding
on any street name change. Any such street name change determined by the
planning commission shall be submitted to the City Council for final approval
and the failure or refusal of the City Council to approve any such street name
change within ninety (90) days of the decision of the planning commission shall
constitute a nullification of the actions of the planning commission on such
matters.
SECTION TWO. This ordinance being necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health, safety, welfare and morale of the citizens
of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, an emergency is hereby declared to
exist and this ordinance shall have force and effect immediately after its
passage.
