YEARS; REPEALING SECTION 6 OF ORDINANCE HUMBER
48, AND FOR OTImat PURPOSES. -
Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas:
SECTION 1. Section 6 of Ordinance Number 48 Is hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. For the purpoco of maintaining and operating a tari.oab company on the streets
of Jacksonville, Arkansas, the City Council of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas, does
hereby grant unto the Jacksonville Taxicab Company, and to its successors or assigns, upon
the terms and ocnditiono hereinafter sot forth, for the period of five years from the date
of t' - e acceptance of this ordinance, the exclusive right to maintain end operate up to ten
taxicabs in the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
SECTION 3. In consideration of the privilege herein granted from and after the effoutive
date of this ordinance, the Jacksonville Taxicab Company shall keep and maintain a fast,
efficient end modern taxicab fleet; karp said fleet and equipment in good order and repair;
end render to the publio at all times adequate, eoonomioal, dependable and satisfaotory
service.
SECTION (l, In further uonaideration of privileges herein granted, the Jacksonville Taxi-
cab Company shall pay a franchise tax of Twenty-live dollars (025.00) plus Ten dollars
010.00) per taxioab unit operating in the City of Jacksonville. Arkunems: The City
Council by a majority vote shall have tlm power to raise the privilege tux from Tzventy-
five dollars (325.0 plus Ton dollars (310.00) per unit operated to any amount feud
feasible.
SECTION 5. The Jacksonville Taxicab Company, vrithin fifteen days after the passage of
this ordinance by the City Connoil of the City,of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and the
approval by the mayor of the City or Jacksonville, Arkansas, shall file with the City of
Jacksonville. Arkansas, the twitter, acceptance of /his ordinance, said acceptance to be
signed and acknowledged by the president of said Jacksonville Taxicab Company and attested
by the secretary. pursuant to a resolution by the board of directors of said Jacksonville
Taxicab Company; said acceptance shall be upon the form at the end of this ordinance.
SECTION 6. If any section or portion thereof of this ordinance shall bo judicially de-
termined to be invalid, such invalidity shall not effect the remaining section or
portion.
S'BCTION 7. The citizens of Jacksonville, Arkansas, being without adequate taxicab
service because there is no other taxicab company operating in the city and the ordinance
being necessary for the preservation of the public peace. health and safety, an emergency
is, declared to exist, and this ordinance shall take affect and be enforced from the date or
its passage.
