0625 000019 RESOLUTION NO. 625 ( #4 - 2009) A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND SUPPORTING COACH VICTOR J0YNER AND THE 2009 STATE CHAMPION (6A) BASKETBALL TEAM PROGRAM OF JACKSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES, WHEREAS, Coach Victor Joyner, Head Basketball Coach of Jacksonville High r School, instituted in 2007 a Character Standards Requirement Program for players of the Jacksonville High School Basketball Program, mandating character and behavior standards for participants in his basketball program at Jacksonville High School; and, WHEREAS, just two (2) short years later, Coach Joyner, together with Assistant Coach and JHS Athletic Director Jerry Wilson, utilized the Character Standards Requirement Program to implement genuine character and integrity standards and forever impact the lives of Fifteen (15) young men by leading them to win the 2009 Arkansas Basketball Championship (6A) this past weekend. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT :: SECTION ONE: Coach Victor Joyner is to be applauded for his hard work, dedication, and efforts to implement his Character Standards Requirement. As a result of this innovative Program, Coach Joyner, Coach Wilson, and their team of Character Champions, with dedication, hard work, athleticism, and skill, won the 2009 Arkansas Basketball Championship (6A) for Jacksonville High School's Basketball Program. Members of the 2009 JHS Championship Basketball Team include: LaQuinton Miles, Xavier Brown, Raheem Appleby, Stanley Appleby, Deshone McClure, Darris Morant, Jamison Williams, Richard Johnson, Dedric Williams, Tyler Barbeneax, Antonio Roy, Demetrius Harris, Cortrell Eskridge, Raymond Buchanan, and Antwon Lockhart. SECTION TWO: The Jacksonville City Council hopes that other area educators will take Coach Joyner's Character Standards Program and apply such to their educational efforts in training and making champions of all students in the City of Jacksonville. Doing so can and will provide all students winning character and integrity, leading them throughout and beyond their educational years into their adult lives. SECTION THREE: This Resolution shall be in effect from and after its date of passage. APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 19 DAY OF MARCH, 2009.
