RESOLUTION NO. 547 ( #7 - 2001)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, EXPRESSING
SUPPORT FOR PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 1882, WHICH ALLOWS THE CREATION OF A
SEPARATE SCHOOL DISTRICT BY DETACHMENT; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jacksonville has heard citizen frustration with the
current state of affairs of the Pulaski County Special School District and notes the need to study all
alternative methods available providing an education for the children in our area; and,
WHEREAS, House Bill 1882, currently presented for passage during the 83rd General Assembly,
allows for the creation of a separate school district by detachment (within certain guidelines and
requirements). Said enabling legislation provides a needed alternative for the citizens of Jacksonville
and its surrounding area to explore in their efforts to improve the quality of education of students in
this area.
NOW
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE,
ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION ONE: The City Council hereby declares its support for the passage of House
Bill 1882, which provides for the creation of a school district by detachment within the State of
Arkansas.
SECTION TWO: The City Clerk is hereby directed to prepare a certified copy of said
Resolution, and the Mayor or his designated representative is hereby authorized and directed to
present said certified copy when and if appropriate during Legislative Committee hearings /meetings
addressing the issue at hand.
SECTION THREE: The City of Jacksonville pledges its full support for the study and
complete assessment of whether the creation of a separate school district would benefit the students
in this area and improve the quality of education available to them.
SECTION FOUR: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of said conflict.
