A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACTIONS OF THE JACKSONVILLE
POLICE DEPARTMENT, AREA BUSINESS OWNERS, AND CONCERNED
CITIZENS FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN CONTROLLING THE NUISANCES
CREATED BY CERTAIN PATRONS OF SKATEWORLD; AND, FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, members of the City Council are aware of the
difficulties and/or nuisances caused by certain patrons of
Skateworld's " Soul Music Night ". Numerous complaints by
concerned citizens, area business people, and City officials
have brought the difficulties faced by the Jacksonville
Police Department and area businesses to the Council's
attention; and
WHEREAS, to address these difficulties, concerned
citizens, the Jacksonville Police Department, and area
business owners have joined together in efforts to eliminate
the negative effect these few patrons have on the positive
activities of many who legitimately patronize the services of
Skateworld; and,
WHEREAS, these joint efforts have brought about an
effective elimination of the negative effects caused by
certain patrons. In doing so, it has reduced the necessity
for extra patrol units, private security services, and the
number of losses suffered by area businesses, as well as the
possibilities of injury to citizens and patrons alike:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION ONE: The City Council extends its appreciation,
commendations, praise, and support to the efforts of the
Jacksonville Police Department, area business owners,
concerned citizens, and all who have assisted in eliminating
the undue negative influence caused by certain patrons of
Skateworld's "Soul Music Night ". A special note of
appreciation and support is extended to the Jacksonville
Police Department and Skateworld's owner, Ray Ellis, for
their tremendous efforts and participation in the resolution
of our community's concern.
SECTION TWO: The City Council further urges those
parties involved to continually review, examine, and
immediately address any potential difficulties that may arise
from future activities of the few "problem" patrons of
Skateworld. The Chief of the Jacksonville Police Department:
and other City officials are directed to take all reasonable
m asUres available to insure that the negative e effect on the
community caused by certain patrons is 'repeated.
