0421 RESOLUTION NO. 421 ( #4 - 90) A RESOLUTION CONDEMNING THE ACTIONS OF CERTAIN POLICE OFFICERS OF THE JACKSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT; REQUESTING THAT A REVIEW BE MADE BY THE MAYOR AND /OR CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION; THAT A FAIR AND JUST PUNISHMENT BE ADMINISTERED TO THOSE OFFICERS; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, It has been determined that numerous police offi- cers of the Jacksonville Police Department have engaged in sexual activities while on duty; and, WHEREAS, such activity compromises the officer's ability to perform their sworn duties of protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the City of Jacksonville; and, WHEREAS, the actions of these officers reflect very poorly on the other police officers who continue to perform their sworn duties in a professional manner; and, WHEREAS, the publicity surrounding the investigations of these officers has reflected improperly on the moral values of the Jacksonville police Department and the morality of the City at large; and, WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Jacksonville expect and deserve professional police protection. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Jacksonville hereby condemns the actions of those police officers who have engaged in sexual activities while on duty. The City Council hereby requests that either the Mayor of the City of Jacksonville and /or the Civil Service Commission review this matter to insure that a fair and just punishment be administered to the officers involved, thereby sending a clear signal to all members of the Jacksonville Police Department that such behavior will absolutely not be tolerated.
