0718000040 RESOLUTION NO. 718 (#13 - 2014) A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE CREATION OF AN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS; AND, FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, citizens of Jacksonville have struggled and sought over Forty (40) years for each child's right to a quality education and efforts to provide an independent school system attractive to both current and prospective residents. Having little to no control of our local schools and the detriment created by such has and remains a vital concern for everyone in our community; WHEREAS, the Jacksonville City Council is dedicated to the enhancement possibilities for all students' educational process possibly available in Northeast Pulaski County should area voters support the creation of an independent school district for Jacksonville and its immediate surrounding areas; and, WHEREAS, creation of a new school district for Jacksonville can provide maximum improvement and be achieved with minimal disruption to our students and faculty, all of which can be done at no additional state or local costs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THAT. SECTION ONE: The City Council expresses its support for the creation of an independent school district and encourages registered voters in Jacksonville to vote YES for our children in support of formation of an independent school district for our community on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. SECTION TWO: Any and all other Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of said conflict. This Resolution shall be in effect from and after its date of passage.
