0742 39 ORDINANCE NO. 7 4 2 AN ORDINANCE RESTRICTING THE USE OF POLITICAL SIGNS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jacksonville, Arkansas: SECTION 1: Title 9 of the Jacksonville Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding a new chapter, 9.32 Policital Signs, and said chapter shall read as follows: 9.32.010 No temporary or permanent political sign shall exceed six ( 6) square feet in area, or six (6) feet in height, nor shall any such sign be permanently fastened to the ground. 9.32.020 Political signs may remain in place for a period not exceeding sixty (60) days. 9.32.030 No political sign may be placed on public property Oft lLtght 06 way. 9.32.040 No political signs may be placed near any intersection which would block the vision of drivers of automobiles in the streets of the City of Jacksonvil1e. 9.32.050 Any person who violates this ordinance shall be charged with a violation and shall be tried in the Municipal Court of Jacksonville and be subject to a fine of not more than $50.00 for each violation of said ordinance. SECTION 2: The invalidity of any part of this Ordinance shall not invalidate any other part hereof. SECTION 3: All ordinance and resolutions, or parts thereof, in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 4: It is ascertained and declared that the use of political signs in excess of six' 6) square feet pre- sents the City with problems of unsightly conditions and poses possible traffic hazards, endangering the life, health, and property of the inhabitants of the City and that, in order to protect its inhabitants, the limitations of political signs set forth in this ordinance must be immediately implemented. 40 IT IS, THEREFORE, DECLARED that an emergency exists, that this Ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the peace, health, and safety, and that this Ordinance shall take effect and be enforced from and irnrnediately after its passage.
